Cousin Jenny here.I have so enjoyed reading your articles, accounts and opinions of your new life in America. You are very honest and unafraid to comment.I guess the whole thing about living in a new land is the discovery and understanding how different things are but the human heart is the same wherever you go.
We had a family of chimney swifts nest in the fireplace in our bedroom last year. We didn't know what was happening, and called the chimney guy to come and investigate the incredible noise that was keeping us awake at night. (They were in the flue and we couldn't see them.) They are protected, so he said to wait until the babies fledge and then they would come back and cap the chimney. He said they are one of only a couple of bird species that can take off vertically like a helicopter.
Bravo! This is an outstanding piece of prose.
🙏
One of the best things you’ve written. Really good. And I learnt about birds in flight too!
Oh thanks I enjoyed this one very much
Uplifting start to the day, Henry! Best wishes in your new community.

Lovely post. FYI I have spent most of my adult life in DC and this is the most beautiful Labor Day weekend weather I’ve ever experienced. Enjoy!

That's a fancy chimney. Is it a factory of some kind?
