I saw Henry advertise this and the next day I chance on a second hand dvd of Polanksi’s Macbeth at a flea market for a princely one euro. It’s a sign! So far I like it: an interesting contrast with the only other one I’ve seen, the Joel Coen one, also very good, with Denzil Washington and Frances McDormand.
Polanski’s has Jon Finch as Macbeth, who is an excellent Bolingbroke/Henry IV in the late 70s BBC Shakespeare adaptations.
I watched the 2024 Macbeth with Ralph Fiennes! I have been on the edge of subscribing to Marcquee TV but I decided to do it for the free trial (has a lot of RSC performances that I I'm not a big fan of... I like the globe productions more) It was a nice performance with the theater atmosphere while also having some really good camera production. I enjoyed Lady Macbeth's and Macduff's scenes a bit more than Ralphs... The cameos with the 3 witches were also well done making it feel more creepy for the Halloween season! Looking forward to comparing it to the Orson Well's version and the BBC one with the Ian/Judi duo.
