The Larkin essay was the best thing I read on Substack all year. So glad to have the opportunity to say so! Happy new year Henry (in which I look forward to reading your book)

The syllabus is great. Pleased to know I have been unintentionally targeting ancient poetry as a starting point.

As for the price—

a) $7/ month doesn't seem high, but it can feel so in combination with other subscriptions.

b) What personally stops me from going paid with TCR is that I haven't read enough literature yet to feel I can properly appreciate and contribute to the topics here. I wouldn't be able to meaningfully engage with what you share which would dampen the experience. But if I was intending to read Shakespeare and Austen next year, then I would definitely go paid, inspite of the above concerns.

“and Nurture your imagination to cultivate anti-mimesis. I thought that last one was one of my most interesting pieces.” - 💯the mirror and the lamp; what a fresh take on anti-mimesis; I always had that tension but with mirror and the lamp; gives me great hope for 2025 and beyond? Bless you Henry
