Ha, honestly, I didn't know there could *be* a position. Those rules are so simple, so rational, so easy to follow that I have long taken for granted that they are universally accepted as correct -- like not speaking with your mouth full, or giving up your seat to a pregnant woman on the train.
However, now that I think about it: very easy to *teach* those rules -- but I certainly don't abide by them in my own writing. Do as I say, not as I do!
That, I think, is what I found most interesting about that debate.
