If I wasn’t smiling, I was out loud laughing; particularly, by the time Mrs. Elton comes on scene. Jane Austen sentences are marvelous constructions to behold. She conveys so much personality, outer voice, inner thought, nuance, contrivance that leads to Emma’s self-aware moments.
I am hoping you will mention the 're-readability' factor about Emma. No way do first time readers notice what Austen is doing - because Emma doesn't! Re-reading is so delightful because you are seeing the tiny clues tucked away. Emma is the only Austen novel that I am ALWAYS reading.
