Loved this interview! I'm starting grad school this fall for the 3rd time (first engineering, then law, now philosophy, cosmology and consciousness) and a lot of what Robin said resonated. Nice to know there's someone else out there taking similar but different left turns.
I have had perennial successes of various degree, I am always doing this what do I want to do next, a good part of perennial success is planning on ending things to start other, I am an engineer it is an older is better game but I added mentorship in my 50 , this having a community that you built gives you incredible band width. I also have degrees in classics and chemistry, so I have great cross over with more scientific and artistic groups. I have a lot of high end groups that reinforce actions in various domains. I am the only one in my building that listens to discussions on books and crams in as many paintings,
Books and music etc I just can function well across domains in a way it is hard as cross domain people are rare and my colleagues think my interests are strange
I had a boring job , I was lucky to get grad school paid for by the company I left and went to a job where i got to travel the world. The wrong degree certainly is not the end of the world
