i get a lot out of these one-off videos. since Christmas, i've been racing through a lot of your recommendations for books that talk about how to read/write (Artful Syntax, Apple/Spectroscope), and have just begun How Fiction Works, by Woods. it opened with chapters on free indirect style and moved on to detail, so this discussion was great for cementing those ideas a bit more firmly in the noggin.
would personally love a bit more technique stuff. feel i've missed so much in my reading by not knowing much of the basics, at least in relation to novels, and it's already starting to pay real dividends. anyway great vid, cheers
Dwight Garner in the NYT did a good review of this novel and @bdm on here is good on Rooney too. Ryan Ruby also. She seems to bring out strong feelings in otherwise deliberative critics!
Loved the portions you read. I think I’ll try it … my first Rooney.

I’m working on my Intermezzo piece… soon… I hope!
Great, thanks for the recommendations!
