I understand that when the Guggenheim was finished someone complained to Wright that they couldn't fit a Jackson Pollock through the warehouse door. He said "cut it in half"!
There are so many stories that have a too good to be true feel but this is definitely the sort of thing he would have said. He originally proposed slanted walls and hanging the paintings below eye-level!
