Henry, I was aware of who Celine was but had not really read much of her writing until I saw this from you while drinking my coffee. I spent the next two hours going down a rabbit hole of literary criticism and discovering, much to my delight, that it isn't a world inhabited by cranky, disgruntled, want-to-be artists (although there are some of those), but rather, mostly people who want to share their love and appreciation for the arts with others in an intellectual way that is rapidly disappearing from many aspects of society. I am inspired by this piece and many of the others that Celine shared, to examine my writing with greater rigor. All the best, Matthew

She is indeed very good.

I enjoyed her Proust piece.

Henry!!!! This is incredibly kind, thank you. I'm so grateful to have met you (and many other wonderful writers/readers through you!) thanks to Substack, and always appreciate how insightful and thoughtful your own criticism is. The community you've made here on the Common Reader and in real life are both very special.
