The Fourth Great Awakening, by Robert Fogel, provides more data on the relative wealth of the colonies. An economic historian, Fogel looked at indirect indicators of wealth, such as average height of the adult population, which was (I think) 4" higher in the colonies than in England. He also noted that the height difference disappeared by the 1840's.
If we couple this economic observation with the recent descriptions in anthropology of humanity as a social learning species which engage in inter-group competition _for_ individuals (e.g. Henrich's Secrets of our Success) we can see that the movement of peoples is the secret of the economics of our progress. And by movement we can include both geographic, social mobility, as well as population growth, and even at a stretch "personal growth" in the loose term of education.
Death cult leaders of course like to stop any movements that are not recruitment into the personality cult, or even if they are, depending on the how close the death cult is to a final solution.
(((Class and caste systems hobble us as well, stability is taken to be a sign of order, when it is just desperate control to hobble social movement.))
Police your narcissists early and hard is the best bet.

Very interesting -thank you for sharing, Henry
(not sure about the argument about the growth of population which might not be applicable everywhere)
