I highly recommend Hollis's book Forms of Contention on the African American sonnet tradition. Her essay on Dracula and the movement to standardize time keeping is also fascinating and can be found online by searching Hollis Robbins Dracula.

I read the English major / plumbers article. Once upon a time, around two decades ago, English Majors went into banking and policy and politics and journalism. And the English / humanity majors did some rather good work. Then they turned those into independent degrees. And now look where we’re at.

The fault lies not with the English Major but what we’ve reduced it to.
