My very first London West End show was the 1987 Lettice and Loveage production with Maggie Smith and Judi Dench - no wonder I became hooked! She was truly a Great. 💮
Another wonderful Maggie Smith line from Downton Abbey: "Why does every day involve a fight with an American?" - this is after she struggles to sit in a new-fangled swivel chair supposedly designed by Thomas Jefferson. 🤣
can't honestly say i know of a bad performance of hers. An immensely skilled and talented individual. and imbued with some magic x factor that's probably best remaining only partially understood. feel it'd be a bit like looking into the Ark of the Covenant or something. what a life

I’m so jealous!
🤗 Forever grateful to the British drama teacher who took a bunch of kids from the middle of America - mostly Alabama - to see that show.
Yeah that’s amazing
“What is a week-end?” has to be one of the best-delivered lines of all time
It’s the “Wh-what” that does it

Miss Jean Brodie, on whom the bluestockings with a bit of closet bad girl modelled themselves. I adored her. Thank you for these glorious clips.
Rare example of a film matching a book imo

She never missed!
She was a classic. For me, she will always be Professor McGonagall.
What a joy. Thank you for sharing these!
Maggie Smith on Talking Pictures tonight, BBC2. Perfect television.
Great, indeed; an incredible talent. Very sad for us, to lose someone like that.
I loved her too. One of a kind. I thought she was amazing in 'The Lady in the Van' and of course as Jean Brodie.
So many wonderful moments. One of my favorite performances is Maggie and Gosford Park.
She never faltered.
“I’m old Peter. Ever so much older than twenty.”
